Tens of thousands of farmers marched on India’s capital city of New Delhi yesterday, clashing with police and storming the city’s historic Red Fort. The demonstration marks the latest in a months-long (and recently-intensifying) protest against a series of agricultural reforms passed by the government last year. While the government previously offered to amend the laws and suspend their implementation for 18 months, the protesters have called for a complete repeal.
Extra: Yesterday’s protest follows a series of demonstrations last year, including a nationwide strike in December.
