Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency on Saturday after a leak was discovered at the Piney Point wastewater reservoir. The reservoir (near Tampa Bay) holds 480M gallons of wastewater from a former phosphate plant. Over 300 homes were evacuated due to concerns over flooding, and officials are working to drain a portion of the reservoir this week.
Extra: The Florida Department of Environmental Protection issued a statement noting that the water being discharged is “slightly acidic, but not at a level that is expected to be a concern” (source).
