UN calls for investigation into human rights abuses in Tigray region
The UN Commissioner for Human Rights called for an investigation into reported human rights abuses in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, citing “persistent, credible reports of grave violations” (statement). Violence in the region escalated last year after the Tigray People's Liberation Front (a once-dominant political party in Ethiopia) was accused of holding an illegal election and attacking a federal army base.
