UK announces new restrictions amid surge in coronavirus cases

The UK announced a series of new coronavirus-driven restrictions, requiring bars, restaurants, gyms, and other non-essential businesses to close for at least four weeks while allowing colleges and universities to remain open. The restrictions also call for residents to remain at home unless leaving for work or school. The UK joins other major European economies to reinstate widespread restrictions amid a record increase in coronavirus cases, including Spain, France, and Germany.
