US national security agencies issued a statement confirming that the SolarWinds cyberattack was “likely Russian in origin,” marking the first time that US authorities have formally assigned responsibility for the large-scale software hack. The cyberattack was initially reported in December and is known to have targeted several US government agencies (including the departments of Homeland Security, Treasury, and Energy) and multiple Fortune 500 companies.
Extra: The statement was issued by the Cyber Unified Coordination Group, a joint task force composed of the FBI, CISA, and ODNI with support from NSA (source).
