Social media company Parler announced plans to resume service this week. Parler was temporarily offline after Amazon blocked the company from using its web hosting services (AWS) in the aftermath of the US Capitol attack, but will resume service with LA-based hosting company SkySilk.
More context: Parler launched in 2018 and marketed itself as a “free speech” focused alternative to more traditional social media platforms. The company faced widespread criticism for violent content posted on its platform in the wake of the US Capitol attack, prompting Amazon, Google, Apple, and other companies to block Parler from using their services.
