Election technology company Smartmatic filed a $2.7B defamation lawsuit against Fox News, three Fox hosts, Rudy Giuliani, and Sidney Powell. The lawsuit alleges that the defendants falsely claimed Smartmatic “fixed and rigged the 2020 election,” causing the company to sustain economic and reputational damage. A spokesperson for Fox News issued a statement defending the network’s election coverage and criticizing the lawsuit as “meritless.”
