Senate confirms Lloyd Austin as Secretary of Defense

The Senate confirmed Lloyd Austin as Secretary of Defense on Friday, marking the Biden administration’s second confirmed cabinet member. Austin, a retired four-star Army general, previously served as the commander of US Central Command and is the first Black Secretary of Defense in US history.

Extra: In his first directive after taking office, Austin ordered a review of sexual assault prevention programs, including which measures have shown promise and a “frank, data-driven assessment of those which do not.”
