Police officials describe Minnesota shooting as accidental discharge

Police officials in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, said the officer who shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop on Sunday mistakenly used her gun instead of her taser, describing the shooting as an “accidental discharge.” The officer has been placed on administrative leave and the shooting is under investigation. Protests over the shooting continued for a second consecutive night last night, and 40 people were arrested.

More context: Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was shot on Sunday after re-entering his vehicle while police attempted to take him into custody (due to an outstanding warrant). He subsequently drove several blocks before crashing and dying at the scene.
