The interim president of Peru (Manuel Merino) resigned yesterday amid ongoing protests over his predecessor’s removal, five days after he assumed the position. Merino was appointed last Tuesday after his predecessor (Martin Vizcarra) was impeached over bribery allegations. Vizcarra has denied the allegations, and protestors have accused Congress of illegally removing him from office. Peru is expected to hold its next presidential election in April.
