NY AG sues De Blasio and NYPD

New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against the New York Police Department and Mayor Bill De Blasio for excessive use of force and making false arrests. The lawsuit alleges that police officers engaged in improper conduct during last year’s racial justice protests. De Blasio and the NYPD said yesterday that they support discipline reforms but oppose the lawsuit, with De Blasio noting that “a court process and the added bureaucracy of a federal monitor will not speed up this work.”
