Noble Prize in Medicine awarded to doctors who discovered hepatitis C

The Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to three US and UK-based doctors who discovered the hepatitis C virus. Prior to their discovery, the majority of blood-borne hepatitis cases were unexplained (according to the Nobel Assembly). The doctors’ discovery allowed for the development of blood tests and new medicines “that have saved millions of lives.” 

Extra: The remaining 2020 Nobel Prizes will be announced over the next week, including the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.
