The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the United Nations World Food Programme this morning for its efforts to combat hunger, improve conditions for peace in conflicted-affected areas, and prevent the use of hunger as a “weapon of war and conflict.” According to the announcement, the WFP is the world’s largest hunger-focused humanitarian organization, and provided assistance to nearly 100M people suffering from hunger across 88 countries in 2019.
