Myanmar miitary files new charges against deposed civilian leader

Myanmar’s military leaders filed a new charge against deposed civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi yesterday, alleging that she violated a law used to prosecute coronavirus-related restrictions. The charges (along with those announced earlier this month) have been criticized as being used to continue the ongoing military coup. 

Extra: Myanmar’s military staged a coup on February 1 following November elections that it claims were fraudulent. The coup sparked widespread international condemnation and mass protests across the Southeast Asian nation, including hundreds of thousands of protesters gathering today despite the military junta announcing plans to hold new elections yesterday.
