Biden reverses Trump administration transgender military policy

President Biden signed an executive order reversing the Trump administration’s transgender military policy. The original Trump administration policy (announced in 2017) largely required troops to serve as their birth gender and prevented the enlistment of transgender individuals who had transitioned sex or were taking hormones. In Biden’s announcement yesterday, he cited a 2016 DOD study which concluded that open transgender service had “no significant impact on operational effectiveness or unit cohesion in foreign militaries.” Here’s the order.
