Consulting giant McKinsey reportedly agreed to a $573M settlement for alleged contributions to the US opioid crisis. The settlement stems from the firm’s role in advising OxyContin-maker Purdue Pharma (which pled guilty to federal criminal charges last year). The deal, which was reportedly reached with 47 states and Washington DC, is expected to be formally announced today.
More context: The agreement (once announced) will mark the latest in the ongoing fallout from the opioid crisis, including a DOJ lawsuit against Walmart and a settlement with Purdue Pharma.
Extra: The US opioid epidemic claimed over 400k lives from 1999 to 2017.
