Judge partially blocks H-1B visa restrictions

A federal judge partially blocked a Trump administration rule that would have prevented workers with H-1B and other work visas from entering the US through the end of 2020. The judge’s decision applies only to the four industry groups (which represent hundreds of thousands of individual companies) that filed a lawsuit against the administration’s order.

More context: President Trump announced the visa restrictions in June, citing a desire to ensure jobs were filled by US citizens in the wake of unemployment driven by the coronavirus. Opponents of the measure included major tech companies (e.g. Google and Amazon) who rely on H-1B visas to access highly-skilled labor.
