Former Jordanian crown prince placed under house arrest

Jordanian officials accused former Crown Prince Hamzah bin Hussein of conspiring to destabilize the nation, placing him under house arrest and arresting 16 others. Hamzah (who was stripped of his title in 2004) denied the claims. A US State Department spokesperson noted that the US is “closely following” the situation and that Jordanian King Abdullah has the US’ “full support.”
