J&J temporarily pauses late-stage coronavirus vaccine trials

Johnson & Johnson temporarily paused late-stage clinical trials for its coronavirus vaccine after a participant developed an unexplained illness. The company noted that illnesses and other adverse events “are an expected part of any clinical study” and that the patient’s condition will be reviewed by an independent review board (source). 

Extra: UK-based pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca briefly paused trials following a similar event in September, before resuming them the following week.
