Iran begins enriching uranium to 20% purity

Iran began enriching uranium to 20% purity today at its underground nuclear facility in Fordo. The increase marks the latest violation of the 2015 nuclear deal (which the US withdrew from in 2018) and brings the country’s uranium enrichment level closer to weapons-grade (90%). While Iranian officials have maintained that the country's nuclear efforts are peaceful, Iran's nuclear program has drawn significant international attention (including a series of US sanctions) in recent years.
