House approves equality bill

The House passed the Equality Act yesterday (224-206), a bill that would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to explicitly include protections against discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The legislation passed largely along party lines and would require a 60-vote majority in the Senate in order to bypass a filibuster.
