Pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong sentenced

Nine pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong were sentenced to prison yesterday in relation to widespread protests between 2019 and 2020. Media mogul Jimmy Lai was among those sentenced. The prison terms mark the latest action taken by China in the wake of the pro-democracy protests, including a controversial national security law that critics say ended Hong Kong’s autonomy from China.
