Google launched a significantly redesigned payments app this week. The expanded app enables peer-to-peer payments, allows users to explore discounts and offers from businesses, and allows users to connect their bank accounts to see spending summaries and trends over time. The company also announced plans to launch a mobile-first bank account product (called “Plex”) in partnership with 11 financial institutions that will provide access to checking and savings accounts with no monthly fees, overdraft charges, or minimum balance requirements.
