Google announced plans to invest $1B in partnerships with news publishers yesterday. As part of the initiative, Google will pay publishers to create and curate content for a new “Google News Showcase” product that uses a panel-based design to “give readers more insight on the stories that matter.” The product will initially be available in Germany and Brazil starting this week.
