The Director of National Intelligence released a declassified report on foreign threats to the 2020 election, finding that Russia and Iran (but not China) conducted “influence operations” and attempted to undermine confidence in the electoral process. The report also noted that foreign actors did not attempt to alter technical aspects of the voting process (e.g. ballot casting or counting).
More context: The report found that Russia (with authorization from President Putin) sought to denigrate President Biden’s candidacy and support former President Trump, while Iran sought to “undercut” Trump’s candidacy but did not promote other candidates.
