DeepMind solves 50-year old biology challenge

Google’s DeepMind division announced that its artificial intelligence system can predict the 3D structure of proteins based on their amino acid sequences, solving a 50-year-old “grand challenge” in biology that was first postulated by Nobel-winning biochemist Christian Anfinsen in 1972. The breakthrough technology could dramatically improve scientists’ understanding of diseases and accelerate the development of treatments (in addition to a wide range of other applications).
