Clubhouse banned in China

Audio-based social media platform Clubhouse was blocked in China yesterday, marking the latest in a series of Chinese government restrictions on social media apps (informally referred to as the “Great Firewall”). The app has surged in global popularity in recent weeks (including use by business leaders and celebrities) and was reportedly used in China to discuss politically-sensitive topics (e.g. pro-democracy protests and the mass detention of Uighur Muslims).
