Biden signs Juneteenth act into law
President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law yesterday, designating Juneteenth (which commemorates the end of slavery in the US) as a federal holiday. While the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, Juneteenth celebrates the date of June 19, 1865, when it was delivered in Texas (the last state in the confederacy to receive the document).
