Alibaba doubles previous record for Singles Day sales

China-based online retailer Alibaba generated $74B during “Singles Day” this year, nearly doubling last year’s total. Singles Day is an unofficial Chinese holiday (established in 2009) that has grown to become the world’s largest shopping event (significantly outpacing estimated sales from Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the US).
