Lakers win 17th championship, tying Celtics record

The Los Angeles Lakers won their 17th NBA championship last night, defeating the Miami Heat in six games. The series caps off an NBA season that was initially postponed in March (due to the coronavirus), before resuming in July at a Disney complex in Florida (dubbed the “NBA bubble”). The league has not yet announced a schedule for next season (which would ordinarily kick off in October) but is widely expected to delay the season until at least January.

Extra: The Lakers are now tied with the Boston Celtics for the most championships in franchise history.
